the lasting legacy of jackie robinson
The Legacy: Baseball
Soon after Robinson joined the Brooklyn dodgers, he was the very cause of all the uproar. This is due to the fact that he was, obviously, African-American. Though he went a lot further than pushing through the negative comments. According to Tom Singer he states,"Robinson caused two other teams, Cleveland and St. Louis Cardinals, to integrate in that 1947 season." This meaning that Robinson choice of going into the Major Baseball League, eventually caused the mentality of other coaches of teams not affiliated with Robinson to conform into a more equal way of thinking. Thus, causing two teams to already integrate their teams in the 1947 season. Also according to Tom Singer," The last of the color line was erased by The Boston Red Sox in 1959." This meaning that in the span of twelve years all of the MLB teams had broken the color barrier between their players and allowed the teams to be equal and played based on talent instead of skin color.

The Legacy: The Civil Rights Movement
Jackie Robinson has already made his lasting impact in baseball and in baseball history. He also made a lasting impact on the civil rights movement as well. According to Freddie Wilhelm, "He was also the director of the NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement Of Colored People." Aside from the baseball he had a plan bigger than himself and the game. This means that this was the start of new rights and new opportunities for African-Americans everywhere. Hence, the name, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
